Follow my journey as a journalist. It all started with my dad's office printer in 5th grade when I started The Roar. I soon moved up to editor of my high school newspaper, The Chronicle, where I was editor and chief. I was also awarded Columnist and Reporter of the Year. During COVID, I took a gap year, and when I wasn't on the slopes or waiting tables, I was interning at the Vail Daily. Right now, I am a double major in Economics and Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I currently write for Business North Carolina Magazine and the Daily Tar Heel as an economic columnist.
"Inflation – it’s why your blue cups at He's Not are more expensive. I’m going to tell you what’s happening with runaway inflation, what the federal funds rate has to do with it and how to capitalize off of contractionary policy."
"Unfortunately, the market is expected to continue to slow. Jerome Powell, chair of the Federal Reserve, basically guaranteed negative growth into 2023. So, if you're investing, kiss start-ups goodbye. Instead, cuddle up to over-the-counter makeup."
Editor’s note: This is Part 2 in a weekly series that takes a hard look at the challenges locals face when it comes to making it in the mountains.
The Colorado state track and field championships began early Thursday morning at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood with runners from Battle Mountain and Eagle Valley high schools competing in 4A and Vail Christian competing in 2A.
“This year is make or break,” said Scott Mortimer, senior student senator and Barrel Man. “It takes three years to make a tradition and it is our third year hosting Wish Week.” Student senate hopes to solidify Wish Week as a key part of HR culture.
October has ended and ski season is upon us. Seriously, ski resorts are opening early. Arapahoe Basin opened a few weeks ago, Breckenridge opened Nov. 5, and Vail’s opening day was Nov. 16 with 500 acres of skiable terrain.
I have been curious my whole life. My parents called my continuous questions "Elle-isms." For example, I was curious about the benches at church. Mom, why are the seats called ‘pews’? Do they stink? As I grew, my questions did too. In fifth grade, my questions grew into interviews inspiring me to start a newspaper for my elementary school, The Roar. With the help of my dad's office printer, the Roar was created and distributed to the entire school.
